The MBBR (Moving Bed Bio-Reactor) system is implemented using a special biomass carrier designed to create a very large surface area for biological growth.
It is an advanced fixed film biological wastewater treatment process that uses special biofilm carriers suspended in specially configured aeration ponds or reactor tanks. Each floating biofilm carrier is designed to handle the reduction of BOD, COD, TSS and certain other contaminants that are absorbed and oxidized by microbiological organisms grown on these biofilm carriers.
MBBR system can be applied in existing facilities. Its biggest advantage is that it makes it possible to increase the capacity of the plant without additional tanks. It can be applied in domestic and industrial wastewater treatment plants. Thanks to its flexible structure, it is also a cost-effective solution for new facilities.
MBBR is an excellent option for space-constrained facilities because it typically takes up much less space than other systems. An MBBR aeration tank can effectively treat the same amount of water as a larger tank used for a more conventional process. In particular, it is highly advantageous because of the maximum surface area that the media provides for biofilm growth.
